There's no application form. You show up, you play, and the people you've been
playing with decide. Here's how it works, from your first night in the Discord to wearing the tag.
Chain of command
The ranks
01
Command
Runs The Unit. Final say on members, servers and new games, and can veto any vote.
UNIT
02
Sergeant Major
Runs the day to day: the Discord, the servers and the admin team.
UNIT
03
Plank Owner
The originals, here before the name changed. Full members with a vote.
UNIT
04
Operator
Passed Selection and the vote. Proposes and votes on new members.
UNIT
05
Candidate
In Selection. Play, be on comms, get known. Thirty days to earn a vote.
OPR8
06
Support
Here to hang out and follow the servers. No tag, no vote, always welcome.
No tag
Candidate to Operator
Selection
Report in
Join the Discord and hit Join in the join channel. You're a Candidate from that moment, and the bot starts your clock.
Thirty days
Thirty consecutive days as a member. Play with us, get on comms, follow the rules. That's the whole test.
Proposed
Once your thirty days are in, an Operator puts your name forward.
The vote
Operators, Plank Owners and Sergeants Major vote for seven days. Hit 75% yes and you're an Operator.
Command can veto any vote. Members can also be voted out with 75% of the membership.
Wear it right
The tags
UNIT
Operators and above. Earned, not given.
OPR8
Candidates in Selection. Wear it while you earn the other one.
Wearing a tag you haven't earned, on the server or in the Discord, gets you kicked until it's fixed.

How you lose it
Standards
Candidates get 3 strikes. Operators get 5.
Hit the limit and it's a ban from the Discord and the servers, with no appeal.
Pinging admins outside a ticket is a 2 strike minimum. Open a ticket instead.
Anyone can be a member. Only members with Show this member's stream ticked
get their channel checked, a live badge, or a player embed — new members start unticked, and an
untick takes effect on the next publish. A Twitch handle on its own does nothing but add a link. Discord sync: the membership bot keeps standings, the Lead / Sr / Jr Admin tags and any handles
marked from Discord up to date. Edit one of those handles here and the sync leaves it alone from
then on; the same goes for the stream tick once you change it by hand. Nobody is ever removed by the
sync — a member it can't find is flagged Not in Discord for you to tidy up.
Photos are cropped to a tall portrait (330×428 proportions) and fill the top of the card,
so a head-and-shoulders shot works best — framing is taken from the top, so hair stays in and
feet get trimmed. No photo yet? They get the Unit backdrop as a stand-in, which sits in the row
exactly like a real headshot until you upload one. On email: anything you put on a public page gets scraped by spam bots eventually. Use a
forwarding alias like name@the-unit.gg rather than a personal address — if it starts
attracting junk you can kill the alias in Cloudflare without touching anyone's real inbox. An
address that doesn't look like an address is ignored rather than shown as a broken link.
About page photos
Any size or shape; they lay out in a row and wrap. Captions are optional.
Hero banner
Masthead: 2560 × 900, full-bleed. Cropped to fill, so keep the subject centred
— it survives down to a phone. Use this one if the art already contains the logo; the
crest and the big title hide themselves so nothing is said twice. In the content column: 2400 × 600 (4:1). Renders at most 1045px wide, so that is
2× everywhere. Behind the hero: 2560 × 900, sits at 30% opacity under the text. Texture only
— art with a logo in it will collide with the title.
Capped at 2560px wide on upload. PNG keeps transparency, JPG is smaller.

Servers
The Servers page groups by Game. There's nothing extra to set up for a new
game — give a server a game name that isn't in use yet and it gets its own section. Group order
follows the order of the servers here. Spelling matters: “Wardogs” and “War Dogs”
would be two sections.
Notes per game
These show on the home page and in full on /server. The connect string is
click-to-copy for visitors, so put exactly what someone types to join. There's no live player count:
WARDOGS has no public server query protocol yet, and a widget stuck on “unknown” is worse
than none.
House rules and the offences matrix moved to their own Rules tab.
House rules
One list, shown on both the Servers page and the Rules page (/rules).
Edit here and both update.
Offences and consequences
Each row is an offence and the level it lands on. The three levels are fixed
— Kick / Timeout, Suspension / Temp ban, Permanent ban — so every row
means the same thing. Rows show in this order on the page; the section hides itself when empty.
Replaces everything in this tab with the set that ships with the site. Publish to make it live.
Type a title and hit Find art. Picking a result imports the header image,
the store blurb, the genres and the store link in one go. Re-import from Steam refreshes
them later without searching again. Everything stays editable — overwrite the summary with
your own words if you'd rather. Not on Steam? Write the summary yourself and upload a cover.
Tags
Tags are the other groups you belong to. Define one here and every member card
grows a checkbox for it — no need to come back to me to add a new one. Removing a tag also
clears it from anyone carrying it. Renaming is safe; the badge text changes and nobody loses it.
Suggested — gathered every hour from Twitch and YouTube
Loading…
Tick one to add it to the page below; Hide drops a suggestion you don't want. Nothing here is
visible to visitors until it's added and published.
On the page
Paste a YouTube link (watch, share, or Shorts) or a Twitch clip link. Anything else is
refused — TikTok, Instagram and Kick clips aren't embedded here by decision. Order here is the order on the page.
Three groups, in this order on the Links page: Sponsors, Partners,
Affiliates. Tick Feature on the home page on any entry and it joins a rotating row on the
home page above In rotation — one row per group, each hidden until something in it is ticked.
Sponsors
Partners
Affiliates
For the groups we overlap with, not sponsors. Logos keep their own shape and sit centred, so wide marks are fine. Leave a link blank to hide that button.
Donations
Shows on the Servers page, under the rules. Blank link hides it entirely. With a monthly cost set,
the page shows cost, raised so far, a bar, and months covered, from the host's public donation page — re-read on the hour.
Discord widget
Shows who's online and an invite button. The ID is on your server under
Server Settings → Widget, where Enable Server Widget also has to be on or
Discord refuses to render it. Blank hides the whole section.
Loading…
Send the link to the person you're adding. It works once, expires in
48 hours, and whoever opens it picks their own username and password on this site —
nothing about their credentials ever passes through you. If a link leaks before it's used,
just make a new one; the old one is dead the moment either is used.
Server connection
Asks the game server exactly as the site does and shows the raw answer — including the
proxy's own words if it refuses. Use this before asking anyone why the card says Offline.
Host a file
For an image you need a link to but don't want on any page — the server banner
the game config points at, say. Uploaded as-is, no resizing. The link is permanent for that exact
file: change the image and you get a new link.
